Title: Stigma and Mental Health in Adolescents and Children

Bio:
Clara González Sanguino holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and is currently a permanent professor in the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Valladolid. Her research focuses on mental health, stigma and discrimination against vulnerable groups, and psychological assessment across different populations. She collaborates with multidisciplinary research teams and has participated in several national and international projects. Her academic output includes more than 50 indexed publications and over 1,400 citations. She also engages in public outreach through innovative initiatives, such as exhibitions, artistic projects, and innovative assessment methods, with the aim of raising awareness and bringing scientific knowledge closer to society.

Abstract:
The stigma associated with mental health issues involves the existence of beliefs, stereotypes, and prejudices, and ultimately leads to behaviors such as discrimination against those who suffer from them. These stigmas can combine with others, multiplying their effects and giving rise to intersectional stigma. Stigma has been found throughout the general population, affecting children and adolescents as well, where its presence can be particularly critical. We will review the main concepts of stigma, exploring what it is and how it can be assessed in the child and adolescent population to reflect on how to prevent or treat it.
